We had spam yesterday, but this morning, when I came in - NO SPAM! NONE! Yea! And, the thing I like most about the Interceptor is that I don't have worry about it - at all. It works. It's very easy to maintain, has a great interface, and informative system reports that displays the status at a glance. I also know the guys at Espion constantly monitor the health of the Interceptor remotely, so that's a huge worry off my shoulders.

Things are going well here.  We are very busy on so many fronts.  Our Interceptor is working fine. I still think every company should have one.

I wanted to take a moment and let you know about an issue that we were having with our Interceptor on Friday January 9th, 2004 and what your guys there did to help resolve the issue.

I noticed that mail flow on Friday was very slow with regards to the incoming mail to our organization.  I started looking at our mail server, Internet connection, firewall and finally the Interceptor. What I found that mail was getting to the Interceptor from outside but was very slow in getting inside to our Exchange server from the Interceptor.

I called Seth and discussed this with him; at that time Seth made me aware that they had been looking at our system since approximately 8:00 pm Thursday night.  And he stated that our mail system was basically under a DDOS spam attack, he said that there were spikes in the system where it looked like we were receiving into the Interceptor about 13,000 messages an hour, which is not normal mail flow for our organization.

He said that the developers and other tech support engineers had been working on this and keeping tabs on the system throughout the night, to make sure that the system was filtering properly. Late Friday night and early Saturday morning they made some changes to the inbound mail queues to handle the overwhelming incoming mail and help speed the delivery to our employees.

This type of support is what I feel separates your company and product from the others in the market today, and will keep INTLX/Espion as a market leader for years to come.

I wanted to send me deepest appreciations and gratitude to the support team there for helping get this under control and mail flowing again. Mail is one of the lifebloods of our organization and without we miss out on business opportunities.

Please pass on my appreciation to all that were involved in helping with this issue and tell them I really appreciate all that they do.

The latest step we’ve taken in the spam battle has helped tremendously.  We’re forcing all email to go through the Interceptor, and now very little spam is getting through to the mailboxes.

Immediately after installing the Espion Interceptor into our network, I was amazed at the volume of detected SPAM. It turns out that over 68% of all our incoming email is SPAM, which was much higher than we anticipated. For one server with 245 mailboxes, that translated into over a quarter million quarantined SPAM emails in the first month with almost no false positives.

Many individuals, including our CEO, were delighted with the positive impact in their day, and took the time to congratulate us on getting the upper hand on the unwanted email overload. The decision to deploy the Espion Interceptor has turned out be one of the best high-impact, low-cost implementations of the year.

Looking at ROI on this move: I've been hearing estimates of 30 minutes to well over an hour in many cases...of on-the-job time saved each day by not having to deal with spam/porn. Most people are telling me this morning that they are now receiving NO spam or porn whatsoever!

Also, this lowers the workload on our Exchange (email) server dramatically [The intercepts are being done before the email ever reaches our network], meaning the mail server should run faster, have fewer problems, and last longer.

And finally, the unit is also doing security checks on attachments and the like and has already stopped more than a dozen potentially dangerous attachments on incoming email.

For the first time since we began this battle, I feel completely comfortable that there is no way the company can be sued because of offensive email.

What is the Espion Interceptor? In a nutshell, it is the best thing to happen to C. H. Fenstermaker and Associates, Inc. My users were constantly being bombarded with SPAM in their mailboxes. We have been running the Interceptor for a little over a month now and it has reduced the amount of SPAM to virtually nothing. I had no idea that 79% of all of our email traffic was SPAM.

I appreciate the responsiveness of the Espion team in helping us implement the Interceptor. I also appreciate that you give me a voice in how the product works and evolves.
